Traffic Scotland

A T-in-the-Park 2008 Real Time Traffic Information page has been added to enhance the existing T-in-the-Park page Information page. This map based page includes roadworks, recommended routes, roadworks and three new cameras near the event location. Key T-in-the-Park information will also be displayed on the T-in-the-Park Information page during the event.

Journey Time start point locations have been added to the Journey Time map to allow users to quickly view times to other locations in and around Glasgow. Each flag represents a start and end location for journey times. By hovering over each flag, the time to all end points is displayed allowing the users a quick view of times using a graphical tool.

A new feature has been added to the Map to allow overlapping icons to be displayed in a "pop-up" box thereby making it easier for the user to view each icon. The feature allows users to hover their mouse over a group of overlapping icons invoking a small pop-up box which displays each icon in an organised list. The user can then easily hover over each of these listed icons to display the related information. The feature is available on the Traffic Map and Journey Times.

As part of our desire to improve the Traffic Scotland Service, we have undertaken changes to allow us to provide more meaningful information to our current incidents. This may take the form of additional descriptive wording, or where appropriate, pictures, to inform the public of the traffic conditions they can expect. Current incidents can be accessed via the incident list view, or the Traffic Information map view pages.

The Live-Eye-View (LEV) camera service has now been extended with the addition of a new camera. The new LEV is named Newhouse and is located east of Glasgow on the M8.

This year Traffic Scotland is working together with T-in-the-Park to provide travel information for people both attending and affected by the T-in-the-Park Festival on the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th of July 2008, through the provision of travel planning and real-time traffic information services. Closer to the event Traffic Scotland shall feature a specialised T-in-the-Park travel information service.

Traffic Scotland now features a range of RSS feeds that bring real-time traffic information straight to your desktop. There are currently three RSS feeds available delivering up-to-date information regarding current incidents, current roadworks and planned roadworks across the Scottish trunk road network. The feeds can be accessed by all available RSS readers, details on how to access them can be found in the FAQ.

Traffic Scotland now provides the Traffic Customer Care Line. This service is a free-phone service that places road users at the centre of traffic information by enabling them to access real-time information quickly and directly for the Scottish Motorway and Trunk Road Network. Through this service users will be able to access traffic information whilst on the move giving them the power to plan and manage their journey to greater effect. The Traffic Customer Care Line free-phone service can be contacted by calling 0800 028 1414.

Traffic Scotland now features its own Carbon Emissions Calculator. This new tool can be used to determine carbon emissions for journeys across Scotland or for a specific mileage. Using DEFRA approved carbon conversion factors the CO2 emissions calculator allows users the ability to calculate carbon emissions for their chosen transport mode. In addition users are able to compare carbon emissions for alternative modes of transport and ultimately determine the most efficient method of travel in terms of carbon output.

The Traffic Scotland web service now provides enhanced weather forecasts for trunk roads across Scotland. The improved forecast includes more accurate and detailed information regarding weather events affecting the trunk road network. This information can be accessed either by region using the interactive weather map or as a list view.

Journey time information is now available via the Traffic Scotland web service. The new feature includes current journey times for major junction-to-junction routes and current journey time conditions in the Glasgow area. Information is presented on a dedicated section of the website which includes a dynamic map view and origin\destination matrix list view. The Traffic Scotland web service now includes a Google Map facility to view current incidents, roadworks, park and ride sites and other layers. Google maps provides a regular map, satellite imagery and merged view of Scotland and the world. For help using Google Maps please click on the FAQ link below. You can now check the traffic through the enhanced Live-Eye-Routes feature. By selecting the Play East or Play West buttons you will see the cameras along the selected routes that include Glasgow to Edinburgh, Aberdeen to Edinburgh and Fife to Edinburgh. The dynamic map shows you where the cameras are along your route. As new cameras are added across Scotland they will added to the routes or new routes will be created. As part of our ongoing improvement and coverage we have added even more cameras. These include cameras covering some of the major bridges in Scotland: Erskine Bridge, Skye Bridge and the Friarton Bridge near Perth. We have also added three new cameras in central Glasgow on the M8. In the highlands we have added cameras on the A87 at Cluanie, on the A82 at Altnafeadh, on the A9 at Slochd and the A95 at Ballindalloch.

The Traffic Scotland Service has recently been updated to include some performance enhancements, the addition of a text only web site, some alterations to the look and feel and also updates to introduce a number of web accessibility features. Roadworks and Planned Roadworks now contain the longer-term roadworks previously in the Traffic News section. The Traffic News section continues to contain general Traffic and enhanced Incident News and news related to the Traffic Scotland service.
